Print Screen key not working? Try these fixes

Resolve common Windows 10 and Windows 11 problems that prevent the Print Screen key from opening your screenshot tool.

Check the Windows shortcut setting

Windows 11 can reserve the Print Screen key for Snipping Tool. Open Settings, search for “Print Screen”, and review the option that uses the key to open screen capture. Disable that option if you want MyPrintScreen to receive the key instead.

Check the keyboard

On compact laptop keyboards, Print Screen may require the Fn key. Try Fn + Prt Scr and check whether another application, keyboard utility, cloud-storage client or gaming overlay has registered the same shortcut.

Restart the capture application

Exit MyPrintScreen from its tray menu, start it again and verify that its icon appears in the notification area. If Windows recently installed an update, restart the computer before testing again.

Confirm that only one copy is running

Multiple capture programs can compete for the same key. Temporarily exit other screenshot utilities and test Print Screen again. You can still start a capture by clicking the MyPrintScreen tray icon once.
